AOL CTO Alex Gounares has decided to leave the company, according to Kara Swisher of AllThingsD. Gounares, a former Microsoft executive from 2003 until 2010, has decided to move back to Seattle, according to sources.
The former Chief Technology Officer for Microsoft’s Online Division, took the same title at AOL after being hired by CEO Tim Armstrong in 2010.
AOL, which bought The Huffington Post last year for $315 Million, has recently run into issues with some of its shareholders.
Gounares is another key executive to leave AOL — TechCrunch CEO Heather Harde left the company back in December.
AOL declined to comment.
